Pornhub Joins NCMEC’s Take It Down Initiative

By Pornhub | March 10, 2023 | 2 minutes

Our measures to prevent the distribution of non-consensual material are second to none, and we are proud to strengthen them even further by participating in the Take it Down service provided by the National Center for Exploited and Missing Children (NCMEC). Take it Down is a joint effort to prevent the online sharing of nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit material of people under 18 years of age.

How does it work? The service allows you to remain anonymous and does not require you to send images or videos to anyone. If you receive threats, know, or even suspect that someone is going to put your material online, Take It Down can help. The service assigns a unique digital fingerprint, also called a hash value, to each image and video, and is created entirely on your own device to avoid any images or videos being sent anywhere or to anyone. Participating online platforms can then detect and remove the material or prevent it from being published in the future.

NCMEC plays a pivotal role in the protection of children online. The Take It Down project is another positive step in preventing the circulation of such images on the Internet.

By scanning content uploaded to our platforms against Take It Down hashes, we continue to add important measures to our industry-leading list of policies and protections, including mandatory age and identify verification of uploaders, extensive moderation practices, and collaborations with several other non-profit organizations around the world.

If you or anyone you know would like to prevent images or videos from being distributed online with this service, we encourage you to visit Take It Down for more information. If any such intimate images have already been shared online, we also encourage you to visit Cyber Tip to report them.
